Travel Grant B-737

On Jan 3rd, the time to spend the new year vacation of 2020 in Iran, I woke up by the terrifying news; assassinating the Iranian top general by order of President Trump, which escalated the tension in the whole Middle East and raised the public concerns in Europe.

Many American top politicians including Elizabeth Warren, the presidential candidate for 2020 and Joe Biden the  47th vice president of the United States from 2009 to 2017 believe the “Donald Trumps’ self-made crisis with Iran” resulted in several negative consequences for the USA and the rest of the world. On Jan 8th, in response to this attack, the Iranian forces fired dozens of the missiles to American military bases in Iraq, due to high sensitivity of protective reaction of the military sites in Iran, a mistake led to a tragedy of shooting the civilian aircraft. We lost many lives including many Iranian students of several Canadian Universities.

Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 (PS752) was a scheduled international passenger flight from Tehran to Kiev operated by Ukraine International Airlines (UIA). On 8 January 2020, the Boeing 737-800 operating the route was shot down shortly after takeoff from Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran, which attributed it to human error.

To honor those students who lost their lives in PS752, I have allocated five mini-scholarships (travel grants) for the newly admitted students of Canadian Universities seeking Ph.D. degrees or post-docs from Jan 8th 2020 onward. Each travel grant is about 200 US dollars, which will be transacted to the banking accounts of the winners after they land and settle in Canadian soil.
